From Norfolk wedding films to Hollywood - Norfolk as a backdrop for famous TV and film locations
Before Melissa & Stuarts wedding hit their TV screen at home reliving their wedding day… Norfolk has been the backdrop to a plethora of famous films and TV programmes. Recently David Walliams appeared in ‘Partners in Crime’ an adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel filmed in Cromer, in 2015 Steve Coogan’s comedy character Alan Partridge (synonymous with the East Anglia!) filmed ‘Alpha Papa’ in 2015 on Cromer pier. The Norfolk Broads doubled as Asian fields in the 1987 film ‘Full Metal Jacket’ with a US army helicopter shooting over the broads. World War 2 film ‘The Dam Busters’ was filmed at the now deserted Langham airfield. Sandringham and Holkham have also been used extensively for period dramas such as ‘The Duchess’ starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes and ‘All the Kings Men’ with David Jason and Dame Maggie Smith which tells the story of a collection of world war one volunteers from the Sandringham estate, led by Captain Frank Beck the estate manager, who joined the Norfolk Regiment and disappeared in Gallipoli in 1915.
