Wedding Videography at Woodhall Manor

Woodhall Manor is a truly beautiful and opulent wedding venue. It has a lot of history too, being an Elizabethan Manor House. You can have the wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening reception plus accommodation available onsite for the bridal party - everything is all in one place. Which will mean less stress, logistics going from bride or groom prep locations and finding accommodation for you and your wedding guests/ bridal party.

You are greeted by a long tree-lined driveway, then the historic architecture and Manor House emerge into view. When filming Woodhall Manor with the drone for Andrea & Joe’s wedding videography you get a real sense of its picturesque location, being surrounded by fields and the meandering River Deben in the background. Expect immaculately kept grounds, a grand water feature at the rear of the manor and a great outside courtyard - the Walled Garden, perfect for outside wedding ceremonies! Now that’s not to say, the interior of Woodhall Manor is any different to the exterior! It really is as grand as you would expect. With Elizabethan decor, grand staircases and resplendent rooms. With the exclusive hire of the wedding venue for your wedding, you get the sense that this is your home from home and is like having your own manor. Now so far we have talked about the history and Elizabethan architecture but in fact, you will be surprised to know there is also some modern twists and styling inside the wedding evening reception room. This bar/ club room is far from Elizabethan with contemporary colourings, furniture, and glass panelling and has an amazing floral/ fabric centre piece above the dance floor, which really sets the scene for your first dance. All this makes for a great wedding videography backdrop but don’t take my word for it, click the wedding video highlights trailer above….

Why Woodhall Manor in Suffolk is a great location for your wedding and well… wedding videography

Suffolk is one of those places that is very largely untouched by the modern world. It has a host of hidden gems and locations. This particular part of Suffolk has a lot of beauty and history to it. Woodhall Manor is just south of Woodbridge and is tucked in just east of the River Deben. Close by, you have great coastal spots like Bawdsey, where there is a ferry that can take you over to Felixstowe. Wedding Videography isn’t the only type of filming in this area of Suffolk. You probably didn’t know this but a large proportion of Danny Boyle’s Beatles film ‘Yesterday’ was filmed nearby to Woodhall Manor with scenes shot outside the Ramsholt Arms, plus the scene with an ‘ageing’ John Lennon was shot at Shingle Street.

Also more recently, the the history of the Sutton Hoo’s Anglo Saxon Royal burial site has reached a worldwide audience with ‘The Dig’ now on Netflix. In 1939, Suffolk landowner Edith Pretty hired a local self-taught archaeologist-excavator Basil Brown to tackle the large burial mounds at her rural estate in Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge and Woodhall Manor. The film received positive reviews from critics and received five nominations for the British Academy Film Awards, including one for Outstanding British Film.

Woodhall Manor is close to a location that has some real importance in the birth of radar in World War 2. Down the road in Bawdsey, believe it or not, was the birthplace of radar! In February 1936, research scientists occupied Bawdsey Manor House and the stables and outbuildings were converted into workshops. 240ft wooden receiver towers and 360ft steel transmitter towers were built and Bawdsey became the first Chain Home Radar Station. On 24th September 1937, RAF Bawdsey became the first fully operational Radar station in the world. Remarkably, this was only a short eighteen months after the first experiment, conducted by Robert Watson Watt and Arnold Wilkins, which established that by using transmitted radio waves it was possible to detect an approaching aircraft, which later on became an instrumental part of England and the Allied forces winning the war against Germany.

Further up the coast and a stone’s throw from Woodhall Manor is Orford Ness. It is known as an internationally renowned nature reserve, but its history is shrouded in secrecy and tales of military testing. In 1913 a large part of the Ness was taken over by the War Department. It was drained to form airfields for the Central Flying School’s Experimental Flying Section and so began an intense seventy-year period of military activity. Experiments during the first World War included those on parachutes, aerial photography, bomb and machine gun sights, the evaluation of aircraft and the development of camouflage. One part of the site which still holds the most interest and intrigue is the pagodas used for atomic bomb testing which can still be seen today.

It’s highly unlikely you will see any aliens or U.F.O’s on your wedding day but…. Woodhall Manor bizarrely is only miles away from one of the world’s (yes worlds!) most famous U.F.O sightings! The Rendlesham Forest incident was a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights near Rendlesham Forest, in late December of 1980 which became linked with claims of UFO landings. The events occurred just outside RAF Woodbridge, which was used at the time by the United States Air Force! Perhaps if any aliens want to get married they would choose Woodhall Manor - as a wedding venue its out of this world! (see what I did there, ok that’s enough bad jokes for one day).
