Woodhall Manor Wedding Videography

Woodhall Manor is a truly beautiful and palatial wedding venue. It also has a lot of history as it is an Elizabethan mansion. You can combine your wedding ceremony and wedding reception all in one place. This means less stress, fewer logistics for the bride or groom to prepare the location, and finding accommodation for you and your wedding guests/bridal party.

You are greeted by a long tree-lined driveway, followed by historic buildings and mansions. Drone shooting of Woodhall Estate for Simon & Robyn's wedding video gives you a real feel of the picturesque setting, surrounded by fields and with the meandering Deben River in the background. Look forward to the perfectly manicured grounds, stunning water views at the back of the mansion and a stunning outdoor patio - a walled garden, perfect for an outdoor wedding! That's not to say the inside of Woodhall Manor is different from the outside!

It's really as good as you'd expect. With Elizabethan décor, grand staircases and luxurious rooms. Rent an exclusive wedding venue for your wedding and you will feel like your home away from home, like your own mansion. We've talked about the history and Elizabethan architecture so far, but you'll also be surprised that the wedding dinner reception room also has some modern twists and styles. A far cry from Elizabethan style, this bar/club space truly sets the stage for your first dance with modern colours, furniture, glass panelling and a stunning floral/fabric centrepiece above the dance floor. All of this makes for a great backdrop for a wedding video, but don't believe me, click on the wedding video highlight trailer above...

Why Woodhall Manor is a great location for your wedding and well… wedding videography

Suffolk is one of the largely untouched places of the modern world. It has various hidden gems and locations. This special part of Suffolk has a lot of beauty and history. Woodhall Manor is located south of Woodbridge, hidden east of the River Deben. There are great coastal towns nearby, such as Bawdsey, where ferries leave to take you to Felixstowe. A wedding video isn't the only type of filming in this part of Suffolk. You may not know this, but a large part of Danny Boyle's Beatles film Yesterday was filmed near Woodhall estate, with scenes filmed outside the Ramshot Arms, The scene starring the "ageing" John Lennon was filmed on Shingle Street.

Also more recently, the history of the Sutton Hoo’s Anglo Saxon Royal burial site has reached a worldwide audience with ‘The Dig’ now on Netflix. In 1939, Suffolk landowner Edith Pretty hired a local self-taught archaeologist-excavator Basil Brown to tackle the large burial mounds at her rural estate in Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge and Woodhall Manor. The film received positive reviews from critics and received five nominations for the British Academy Film Awards, including one for Outstanding British Film.

Woodhall Manor is close by to a location that has some real importance in the birth of radar in World War 2. Down the road in Bawdsey, believe it or not was the birthplace of radar! In February 1936, research scientists occupied Bawdsey Manor House and the stables and outbuildings were converted into workshops. 240ft wooden receiver towers and 360ft steel transmitter towers were built and Bawdsey became the first Chain Home Radar Station. On 24th September 1937, RAF Bawdsey became the first fully operational Radar station in the world. Remarkably, this was only a short eighteen months after the first experiment, conducted by Robert Watson Watt and Arnold Wilkins, which established that by using transmitted radio waves it was possible to detect an approaching aircraft, which later on became an instrumental part to England and the Allied forces winning the war against Germany.

Further up the coast and a stones throw from Woodhall Manor is Orford Ness. It is known as an internationally renowned nature reserve, but its history is shrouded in secrecy and tales of military testing. In 1913 a large part of the Ness was taken over by the War Department. It was drained to form airfields for the Central Flying School’s Experimental Flying Section and so began an intense seventy year period of military activity. Experiments during the first World War included those on parachutes, aerial photography, bomb and machine gun sights, the evaluation of aircraft and the development of camouflage. One part of the site which still holds the most interest and intrigue are the pagodas used for atomic bomb testing which can still be seen today.

Its highly unlikely you will see any aliens or U.F.O’s on your wedding day but…. Woodhall Manor bizarrely, is only miles away from one of the worlds (yes worlds!) most famous U.F.O sightings! The Rendlesham Forest incident was a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights near Rendlesham Forest, in late December of 1980 which became linked with claims of UFO landings. The events occurred just outside RAF Woodbridge, which was used at the time by the United States Air Force! Perhaps if any aliens want to get married they would choose Woodhall Manor - as a wedding venue its out of this world! (see what I did there, ok that’s enough bad jokes for one day).
